I started doing these small body paintings as an exercise in loosening up my style and playing with gooey paint textures on a tiny surface. I have used the minis to try out new compositions and color combinations, to save extra unused paint from larger pieces, and to keep myself working when I feel stuck. I am enjoying the challenge of having to express my vision in a limited space and I see these minis as portals into private moments that I am choosing to focus on and share with you. Sometimes it takes a while to understand the perspective or what part of the body I am focusing on in a piece, and I like to exaggerate that even more with these minis, zooming in on a hand or a torso so much that they start to look like abstracted forms almost like a landscape.
